Georgian Pop Art

The facade of the house was enhanced with modern containers and strong architectural plantings. The tension between the traditional Georgian architecture of the house and the unexpected modern landscape design sets the tone for the playful interior. The existing motor and pedestrian gates were typical pre-fab wrought iron and in desperate need to be replaced. Custom gates were designed and painted a dramatic glossy black. The Pedestrian gate, with its concentric cutouts, allows for a playful peek to what lies beyond. These portholes informed the custom carved finials on both gates and fence posts. Clients wanted a poolside shade structure to which Baldridge Landscape responded with some literal SHADE. The custom pergola performs a double duty by providing a respite from the sun and serving as a happy wink in the landscape. Awnings were added in a striking black and white stripe with a peek of grass green on the double valance. Agaves in glossy black pots were placed as punctuation under the studio awnings. A fresh and colorful art piece was relocated to a more intentional green demilune and a gravel garden was installed. The green vignette framed the art piece and created a cheerful axial view from the kitchen windows.
